ABACUS ATELIER is a Milan-based creative design studio founded in 2024 by architects Olga Spagnoletti and Diletta Aprile. The studio focuses on contemporary object design, blending Italian craftsmanship with a conceptual exploration of beauty as an evolving experience.
The Atelier was conceived around the idea that beauty is fluid and transformative. Its design philosophy embraces change, creating modular and expressive objects meant to evolve with the sensibility of their owners. Each piece invites personal interpretation, reinforcing the connection between form, material, and emotional experience.
Riviera Nostalgia, the studio’s first collection, presents a series of modular ceramic vases entirely designed and handmade in Italy. These collectible ceramic objects combine sculptural aesthetics with functional design. Each element becomes part of a personal narrative, reflecting both the maker’s gesture and the individuality of the person who selects it. The collection highlights artisanal ceramic techniques and celebrates the heritage of Italian handmade design.
The vases are inspired by childhood memories, instinctive gestures, and the seaside imagery cherished by the founders, who grew up along the Romagna and Salento coasts. This dialogue between memory and material transforms nostalgic references into contemporary ceramic design pieces that bridge tradition and modern aesthetics.
The studio’s second project, developed in collaboration with Le Fiere, is Ceramiche Bestiali, a capsule collection inspired by Gli animali difficili: bestiario sull’amore e sulla vita, a fanzine exploring shared traits between animals and humans. This research led to a limited collection of 12 sculptural ceramic abacuses, where each human-animal archetype is expressed through form, surface, color, and intentional imperfection.
The project celebrates evolution, instinct, and individuality through handmade ceramic objects. Each piece embodies tactile materiality and artisanal craftsmanship, reinforcing ABACUS ATELIER’s commitment to contemporary Italian design and collectible ceramics
